Another Ski and White Tail Deer

Thanks to Lois Fite for going with me on a great ski yesterday in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.  It was sunny with temperatures in the low 30s.  Since it was very cold the night before, and because the trails had just been groomed, the track was fast and fun.

There are numerous white tail deer that live on my property.  In the mornings and evenings I often see the deer walk by the front of my house.

Awesome Ski through the Woods

The snow was a bit sticky yesterday with temperatures in the upper 20s, but I still went on a great ski with friends Carol, Len, Jamey, and Lois.

School Forest Ski

Temperatures dropped to the mid 20s and we received the first new inch of snow, so Lois Fite and I decided to ski the school forest yesterday.  Some of the trails had been groomed, so off we went.  It was not the best ski since the snow was hard and crunchy, but it felt good to be out there.

Sable River Snowshoe

A couple of days ago Lois Fite and I snowshoed from Sable Visitor's Center to the foot bridge above Sable Falls, into the dunes, and back.  Temperatures were in the 40s, so the snow was slushy.  However, it was still a great snowshoe!

There is not much snow in the dunes!

 There is some shore ice, but almost no ice on Lake Superior.  Weird.

Another Book has been sent to the printer

As most of you know, I am a project manager.  I love it when a project has been completed.  Today is one of those days.  I just finished sending the files for my newest book to the printer.  The new book is: Rocks Through Time, Book One: Geologic Stories of Nine Stones. The age range for this book is five through adult. This is the first book in a series intended to entertain and teach about the amazing geologic wonders of our planet. The series uses an engaging poetic narrative along with innovative graphics to simultaneously teach and inspire. Book One tells the history of Earth through the geologic stories of nine stones. Additional information is included about the evolution of rocks, the rock cycle, and the characteristics of rocks (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic), as well as a glossary. I should have the hard cover copies back from the printer in around eight weeks. Photos of the covers as well as a couple of the internal pages are included with this post.

 

 

School Forest Snowshoe

Over the weekend we had sunshine and warm temperatures in the 40s.  I went on a great snowshoe with friends in the Burt Township School Forest.  A good time was had by all.

Sable Falls Ski

The other day I cross country skied with a friend over to Sable Falls.  We took our skies off and hiked down the steps.  Some sections we actually slid, since it was safer.  There is no ice on the falls themselves, but their are sections of snow covering parts of the cascading falls.  We also saw a bald eagle.  It was a great ski!
