It was in the teens yesterday with a brisk wind from the west, resulting in wind chills that were near or below zero. We decided to snowshoe the North Country Trail east of town. We parked at the kiosk located a couple of miles from town on H58 East, and snowshoed east toward the School Forest. We had intermittent sun, which is wonderful since it has been so cloudy.
As we were snowshoeing down the road back to the car, we passed a logging operation. Most of the trees around Grand Marais are now 100 years old. Some of the trees being loaded on to the truck were huge.
As I passed town, I noticed that at least for now the bay is frozen over.
