Sullivan's Landing -- Shipwreck Survival Story
When driving home from Moose Lake, I took H58 from Munising to Grand Marais. I stopped at Sullivan's Landing to take a quick walk on the beach.

At this spot along the Lake Superior shore there was a shipwreck back in the 1800s. A schooner was heading west bound when the ship hit the rocks at Au Sable Point. Captain Sullivan told his crew to abandon ship when they started taking on water. His men refused to jump into the waves of Lake Superior. Captain Sullivan then threw the ship's cargo overboard: whiskey barrels. He convinced the men to ride the barrels to shore, which they did. All of the men were saved, as were the whiskey barrels. They went ashore at what is now nicknamed: Sullivan's Landing.
