Yesterday I made the long drive home from the Cuyuna agate and mineral show (around 485 miles). Thanks again to Sharon and Tom for putting me up over the weekend, as well as for the agate hunting and the good times.
While in Minnesota the evidence of spring was all around. There was almost no snow and the ice has already melted off the lakes. I didn't see much snow until I arrived back into the Upper Peninsula. The good news, however, is the H58 West is open. The road commission punched through and plowed the road. In places there are not quite two full lanes, but it is certainly plowed enough to drive the road.
Kingston Lake has some open water, but is mostly ice covered.
The roads are not plowed into access points in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Below is a picture of the road into Twelve Mile Beach. As you can see, somebody was stuck.
The Lake Superior overlook parking lot at Sullivan's Landing was open. There is still a lot of shore ice, now covered in sand.
