Yesterday I had to go to Newberry, so I asked friends, Jamey and Lois, if they wanted to go as well. Since my assistant, Jaylynn, was working the museum -- we left early enough to allow a quick trip to Taquamenon Falls. I usually visit the falls in the winter to see the ice, so it was different to go during peak tourist season as well as during low flow rates. The record flow going over the falls happened in 1980 when a rate of more than 52,000 gallons per second was measured. Yesterday only 1,782 gallons per second were flowing.
