Sunset and snake

A couple of nights ago I went for another walk on the beach at sunset to get a few photos. Yesterday I saw the first snakes since I have been down here in the Florida panhandle. They just finished burying new cables for XFinity around my condo. It must have disturbed the snakes. The first one I saw on my porch. It was long, fat, and black -- somewhat coiled laying in the sun. As soon as I saw him, I went into the condo to grab my camera and by the time I went back out (5 seconds later), he was gone. Ten minutes later I decided to look on the other side of the fence and I saw a smaller, two-foot long, skinny black snake. Does anyone know what type of snake this is?
