Grand Sable Dunes Hike to Log Slide

The other day I went on a great dune hike with a friend of mine visiting from Colorado.  Clare and I have gone on many hikes over the years in many different states, but she enjoys the dunes as much as I do.

We parked at the Masse Homestead trail head and hiked through the woods, up into the dunes, across the dunes to the shoreline and Log Slide, and back the North Country trail to our car.

The best way down a steep dune is glissading on your butt.

After hiking for around an hour we arrived at the Lake Superior bluff.

We hiked along the bluff to the Log Slide.

Lake Superior Sunset and New Museum Paint Job

When friends were up the other day, we headed down to the boardwalk for sunset.

The painting of the museum is now done.  Thanks to Calvin and John for bringing this old building back to life.

Chapel Hike in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore -- Post 4

Today I will post the remaining photos taken during the Chapel Loop hike I went on the other day.

While eating lunch sitting on a sandstone formation at Mosquito Beach, this seagull hung out with us the whole time.

The photo below is looking east from our lunch spot.  Our intention was to swim to what I call the "Fred Flintstone" cave seen in the upper left.  However, the waves hitting the rock were making weird and dangerous currents.  Instead, we sat on the rocks and were "waved" by Lake Superior.  It was fun.

A large white pine tree is barely hanging on by its roots.

While heading back toward the car, I took a few photos of the fungi and club moss....
