On the third day of hiking the Porkies we first climbed up to Summit Peak. We did that before, but it was so foggy we could not see the view. Given that it was a beautiful sunny day, we decided to climb up again. The top of the tower is 1,958 feet above sea level.
Next, we continued driving west on the South Boundary Road and hiked the Pinkerton Trail to the mouth of the Little Carp River on the shore of Lake Superior. This trail was a six mile round trip hike. It was beautiful.
Trail head....
Most of this trail brings you through a mature forest.
Little Carp River...
From the bridge near the end of the trail, this is the view up stream....
Below the bridge there were hundreds of big fish.
From the bridge looking down stream toward Lake Superior....
This hill was covered in trout lilies....
The forest floor was also covered with wild flowers....
.... as well as other plants.
The beach near the river's mouth....
We saw the same fishing boat traveling by....
Helen having fun at our picnic...
Then we headed back to the car.
