A Tour of My Back Yard -- Post 3

Although I have enough images for two more posts, I'll finish the tour of my back yard with just today's post.

Stiill meandering down my south path....

It has been a long while since I went off path in the front section of my woods.  I remember in the past seeing the reminants of a sugar bush (maple syrup processing station).  Only around 20 paces off the path -- there it was. 

Right next to the long abandoned equipment, I found a grand daddy White Birch tree.

Once I finished walking on my south path, I headed to the north path that loops through even more apple trees.

Along this path I have a couple of meditative clearinigs.

A Tour of My Back Yard -- Post 2

This second of three postings will continue the tour of my back yard. Back on the south path....

Along the path and through out sections of the woods there are a couple of different varieties of fern.

More wild flowers.....

There are also a lot of pine trees.

I had fun documenting the rain drops still clinging to the fruit clusters.

There are also white birch trees and a few maple trees.

A Tour of my Back Yard -- Post 1

I have not had time for any outdoor adventures this week so I decided to walk around my property. I live on 10 acres located around three miles from Grand Marais, up on top of a glacially formed kame terrace. It rained early this morning, so I thought it would be interesting to capture the rain drops clinging to vegetation. As I slowly meandered my paths, I snapped off photos of anything that looked interesting. In an hour I took 198 photographs! Even after going through them, there were more than 40 that I thought captured the look and feeling of my property.  I'll post them over the next few days, beginning today.

Those of you who have followed my blog, have seen the mowed paths in the winter that double as my cross country ski trail.

Right after starting out, I saw the rain drops still clinging to the spruce needles.

I like the white, red, and green.....

I have at least 100 apple trees including many different varieties.  This is yet another great apple year.

In a few areas there are open meadows.

Sunset Walk Along the Bay

Last night after closing the museum I decided to go for a sunset walk along the bay. It was an absolutely gorgeous summer evening with calm winds and temperatures in the lower 70s. I'm not sure why, but the sunset's colors last night were fabulous.

First, I cut through a friend's yard to get to the beach.  On the way I captured this perennial flower.

Notice the pink sky at the top of this photo, as well as the colors in all the photos below.  These are the actual colors -- no Photoshoping needed.

The sky was so colorful that even the individual grains of sand celebrated by reflecting the color.

So did the water and the waves......

I couldn't resist capturing this small fishing boat entering the channel and going by the lighthouse.

The shadows in the bay surrounding the fishing boat when they were headed toward the marina deserved documentation.

And now enjoy the sunset.
