Mackinac Island -- Post 2

For today's post I'll continue including photos from the Mackinac Island trip I had last weekend.

Right after we got off the ferry, we stopped at the Huron Street Pub and Grill.  Most everything on the island was not yet open due to a labor issue.  To make the island "run," there are 3,500 workers who are "imported" for the summer.  The arrival of the workers was delayed this year for a week.  According to contract, employers have to arrange for housing for all workers.

Scenes from our evening hikes...

Father Marquette...

Fort Mackinac, established in 1782....

As everyone knows, automobiles are not allowed on the island other than emergency and municipal vehicles -- and snowmobiles in the winter.  Instead, there are over 500 horses used on the island to transport goods and people.

Flowers and vegetation were coming up everywhere....

This is where our group of friends stay.....

There are houses across the street from the Wendell House, but there is a gap through which we can watch the freighters go by......

We went for an evening hike and spotted a beaver dam located in a small inlet along the shoreline...

Other scenes from our stoll...
