Little Presque Isle to Sugarloaf Mountain Hike

This past weekend I had a decent show in Marquette -- my last show of the year!  I stayed an extra night after the show so I could hike with my friend, Helen Riley.  We used two cars, parked one at Sugarloaf, then drove to Little Presque Isle and started hiking.  It is an awesome hike with a total distance of around 3.5 miles!!!!

The red line below shows the trail we hiked.

The beginning photo is shown below....

There were three sets of steps on this trail....

What a difference a year makes.  This same day last year we hiked part of the same trail.  Due to the extremely icy trails and the slower pace that resulted -- we did not have enough time last year to complete the whole trail.  The photo below shows some of the ice last year along the lakeshore.

The second set of steps...

When we were just north of Sugarloaf Mountain, we hiked through this amazing moss-covered granite section.

When we arrived to the top of Sugarloaf, it was VERY windy.  We hiked down out of the wind and found a terrific picnic spot on top of a cliff looking over Lake Superior.
