Kayak Symposium, Green Stone, and More

For today's blog posting I have a variety of photos.

First, a few pictures of the Ladies of the Lake sea kayak symposium being held in Grand Marais this weekend.

A rockhound friend, Chris, came into the museum yesterday to share with me rocks he found up in the Keweenaw this last week.  First, a picture of a large piece of greenstone.  This specimen is worth around $1,000.

Chris also had several thomsonites.

He also had some amazing copper replacement agates.

While in the Copper Harbor area, he snorkeled the basaltic matrix and extracted the following agate directly from the basalt.  Thanks to Chris for the specimens he donated to the museum.

A few afterglow pictures from last night's sunset....
