Incredible Rock Collection

While visiting friends, Larry and Marcy, I took a few minutes to walk around their house to take photos of a few of their rock cases and specimens. Not only is their barn house one of my favorite houses that I've ever been in, but their collection rivals that of most mineral museums. I would have to dedicate several days worth of blog updates to include all of their specimens. Instead I walked around their house and captured a few images. Thanks again to Larry and Marcy for sharing their home, hospitality, and wonderful collection.

Let's start the tour of their collection with a huge sagenite agate....

A dry head agate from Montana....

A few of their spheres...

A few of their big Lake Superior agates...

A South Dakota fairburn agate....

A Lake Superior peeler agate...

Another peeler...

Wowser.....How about this Laker?

A South Dakota Teepee Canyon agate.....

A Missouri Keswick agate....

An Australian tiger eye....

I was afraid to pick up this specimen to read the tag below it, but what a crystal structure....

A few of their rock cases....

A Mary Ellen jasper stramatolite slab....

Several slabs of binghamite...

All Lake Superior agates....

Missouri Union Road agates....

More rocks in a bay window box -- mostly Lakers......

Larry and Marcy were walking along a road in the Keweenaw Peninsula several years ago.  Marcy noticed a little green color popping out of the newly graded road.  When they started digging, they found a huge piece of float copper that weighs more than 100 pounds.  Sitting on top are other smaller pieces of copper they have also found.

A fine specimen of Ocean Jasper from Madagascar...

More specimens on shelves....

  1. Incredible. A nice reminder to display one's collection for all to appreciate rather than stuffing it in a box in a closet to gather dust and cobwebs.
