Winter Snowshoe and Picnic

This year I have been fortunate to have an extended birthday celebration.  It started last Thursday with friends at Sportsman's Restaurant, continued on my actual birthday Saturday with more friends, and ended yesterday with still other friends who treated me to a snowshoe picnic.  Jamey, Lois, and I snowshoed down the road west of Sable Lake.

Winter "art" next to the road....

We headed out onto the ice and walked down shore.....

The dunes are beautiful in the winter.

Our destination:  yet another old chimney.  At one time there were over 30 houses and cabins on Sable Lake.  When the national park was established, home owners had to remove their houses.  This chimney still remains.

We had a great fire.

Lois made a multi-course belated birthday dinner, starting with shrimp cocktail.  I really enjoyed this picnic!

Finally the chimney started to draw....

As it was getting dark, we headed back to my house for the final courses of food:  fruit and zucchini bread.

  1. Wow, Karen, Lois and Jamey...you guys are really living life and making cozy memories! Wonderful photos. I didn't know about the chimney being still there. At first I thought it was the School Forest one. I've walked on that Lowder Rd. quite a few times, but in summer. :) Thanks.
